PENN STATE ADVANCED VEHICLE TEAM

WE ARE THE PENN STATE ADVANCED VEHICLE TEAM

The Penn State Advanced Vehicle Team (AVT) brings together students from engineering, computer science, business, and other disciplines to develop the next generation of intelligent and sustainable vehicles.

Through hands-on vehicle development, AVT gives students the opportunity to work on real-world challenges in autonomous driving, vehicle controls, electrification, perception, system integration, and advanced mobility technologies.

Since 1988, Penn State AVT has participated in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions, where university teams design, build, and demonstrate innovative vehicle technologies while maintaining safety, performance, efficiency, and consumer usability.

Today, AVT is continuing that tradition through the EcoCAR Innovation Challenge. Our team is developing advanced technologies on a Chevrolet Blazer EV platform, combining electrification, connected and automated vehicle technologies, vehicle systems engineering, and intelligent controls.

AVT is primarily student-led and provides members with opportunities to gain practical experience in engineering design, software development, testing, project management, communication, and teamwork. Students collaborate across technical subteams to solve complex vehicle challenges and prepare for careers in the automotive, robotics, and mobility industries.
